Who Sang Show Me Love?

Hold tight Scooby-Doo, we’ve got a mystery to solve! Have we been listening to somebody else singing ‘Show Me Love’ all these years?

Andrea Martin says was paid $300 to work on a demo version of the song by it’s writers, Allen George and Fred McFarlane. She claims she was given the lyrics but came upon with the melody and added extra ad-libs. Robin S has said she never heard any demo version… The plot thickens!

If you somehow missed it, here is my first video on ‘Show Me Love’ including the rarely heard 1990 Robin Stone, original version!

Sadly Andrea died recently at the age of 49, but she spoke on the matter as part of a ‘Women Behind the Panel’ in 2011.

In this video Miguel explores the evidence and directly compares the voices of both women.

Here is Andrea singing ‘Show Me Love ‘ live in 2011

If you want my opinion, for what it’s worth… I honestly don’t know!

But I do know this — I’ve spent plenty of time in music studios working on tracks with vocals. Maybe we had samples re-sung, maybe we had demo versions floating around… but we ALWAYS used the vocals that we thought sounded best.

Don’t shoot the producer — I’m just being REAL with you. It happens!

I guess the real tragedy is that Andrea only got her $300, while Robin had to haul ass around the world performing, just to keep earning from it.

That’s the music industry, folks! The dance music industry especially in the ’90s, was notorious for mistreating, underpaying, and underrepresenting Black singers in particular.
