If you were hitting the clubs in the mid-90s, there’s no way you missed this one. “I Luv U Baby” by The Original was the kind of track that hit you right in the chest! A euphoric house anthem with that irresistible vocal hook that made you want to throw your hands in the air and lose yourself in the moment. But did you know this iconic tune didn’t smash the charts straight away? Its rise to dance floor dominance was more of a slow burn — and that’s what makes its story even more interesting.

The Original – I Luv U Baby (Top Of The Pops – 17/08/95)

“I Luv U Baby” was the debut single of American dance music group The Original, released in the UK in January 1995 through WT and Ore Music. It was written and produced by Walter Taieb and Giuseppe Nuzzo, with vocals delivered by Broadway singer Everett Bradley — whose soulful, soaring delivery gave the track its emotional punch. On its initial release, the song landed at a modest number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. Respectable, sure — but not exactly the club takeover it would soon become.
That all changed with a well-timed re-release later in 1995. The track was already building momentum in the underground scene, with DJs spinning it at house nights across Europe. When it dropped the second time around, it skyrocketed to number two on the UK charts — turning it into an anthem that defined the era. The track also reached number 12 in Ireland and cracked the top 40 in Iceland and the Netherlands.
