There are tracks that defined the underground, and then there are tracks that accidentally smashed their way into the mainstream. “Far Out” by Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era is one of the most chaotic, joyful, and instantly recognisable tunes to emerge from the early ’90s UK rave scene — a hardcore jungle hybrid that somehow found its way into a Suzuki advert, and in doing so, brought breakbeats to living rooms across the country.
Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era is the tongue-twisting alias of Daniel Whidett, better known in the scene as Danny Breaks. Hailing from the UK, he was one of the pioneers at the forefront of the hardcore and jungle movement in the early ‘90s — part of the influential Suburban Base Records roster that pushed the boundaries of breakbeat music.

Released in 1991, “Far Out” is a perfect example of early rave music’s lawless creativity. It’s a track built around sliced and diced amen breaks, distorted kicks, helium-pitched vocal snippets, and laser-sharp synths. The tempo pushes well past the comfort zone of traditional house music — this is high-octane, adrenaline-pumping, strobe-lit madness.
