Basement Jaxx, are a British electronic music duo consisting of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, they gained global recognition for their innovative fusion of house, garage, funk, and Latin influences. Known for their genre-defying approach, they became pioneers of modern dance music in the late 1990s and 2000s.
“Do Your Thing” is one of the standout tracks from their 2001 album Rooty, which showcases the duo’s playful and eclectic style. Sampling the jazz piano of Kenny Barron’s 1991 track ‘Fungii Mama’ which is a cover of Blue Mitchell’s track released in 1964.
Blue was a highly regarded American jazz trumpeter known for his warm tone, lyrical playing, and versatility across various styles of jazz.
The album Rooty itself was critically acclaimed for its bold experimentation, blending house beats with unconventional genres and delivering hit singles like “Where’s Your Head At” and “Romeo.” “Do Your Thing” encapsulates the duo’s ability to create tracks that are both musically adventurous and universally appealing.
