Minnie Riperton (1947–1979) was an American singer-songwriter known for her five-octave vocal range and her use of the whistle register. Best known for her 1975 hit “Lovin’ You,” Riperton began her career with Rotary Connection before finding solo success. Her gentle, emotive voice and innovative vocal techniques left a lasting influence on soul and R&B music. Riperton tragically died of breast cancer at just 31, but her music continues to inspire artists worldwide.
